Violent disturbances unfolded in Dublin city centre last night following a stabbing incident in which three young children and a woman were injured.

A five-year-old girl underwent emergency surgery. A garda car was set ablaze following clashes between protesters and the Public Order Unit.

Public transport services were suspended after two Dublin buses and a LUAS tram were set alight.

Footage on social media shows a shoe shop and iconic department store Arnotts being looted.

The Garda Commissioner Drew Harris blamed what he called a "lunatic hooligan faction driven by far right ideology" .
