You could also treat yourself in the present-buying process by booking you and your loved one in for a night of laughs in a comedy club, an escape room adventure, or a matinee at an independent cinema.

If you're on a tight budget, there are plenty of hidden gems to be found in charity, thrift and antique shops such as Saint Vincent de Paul, Oxfam, Enable Ireland, Nine Crows and Needful Things.

Alternatively, you could suggest that your family play Kris Kindle this year, or you could host a games night for friends where guests bring a festive dish in lieu of presents.

Whatever you do, be sure to have a very merry Christmas.
