Once upon a time he was just a kid in county Down watching the Toy Show with his dad.

But tonight Patrick Kielty gets to present the annual guide to the best Christmas toys, taking over hosting duties for the first time in the extravaganza that was first broadcast in 1975.

The theme of the highly anticipated festive special is kept under wraps until the day of the show, with last year's based on The Wizard of Oz, but viewers have come to expect one of the magical moments of the TV year, with many celebrity guests expected to take part.

There'll be the odd surprise too, and maybe even a time for tears of joy.

British comic actor Jennifer Saunders (below), currently starring in Peter Pan at the London Palladium, joins Graham Norton on tonight's show.

Also taking up sofa space are Daisy Haggard, currently appearing in new BBC drama Boat Story, and Kerry's Hollywood star Michael Fassbender, of Next Goal Wins and The Killer fame.

Plus – and it’s a pretty good plus - Take That chat and perform their current single, Windows.

Clive Myrie (below) presides once more as writer and comedian Rosie Jones, radio DJ Gemma Bradley, Dan Gillespie Sells of chart-topping band the Feeling and broadcaster Andy Goldstein take to the famous black chair.

They’ll be answering questions on TV sitcom dinnerladies, the Iron Man films, lyricist Bernie Taupin and Martin Scorsese's Goodfellas.

The second round sees them tackling general knowledge questions in a bid to carry off the commemorative trophy.
