Nan Hogan's great-nephews share one of the letters she wrote from prison during last weeks of the Civil War, in which she describes the terrible conditions in which women and girls were kept. You can find out more about Hogan's revolutionary life here.

The Silent Civil War airs on RTE 1 on 26th April and May 3rd at 9.35pm and each episode is available on the RTE Player after the live broadcast.
