Dublin department store Clerys reopens after a four month closure due to flood damage.

Clerys, which has been trading on O'Connell Street since the 19th century, has undergone a complete refurbishment after the entire building suffered extensive water damage.

Customers queued from early morning ahead of the store reopening and sharing memories of the Dublin institution. Clerys clock has been a meeting point for Dubliners for decades and one woman recalls being stood up on her first date.

Singer songwriter Bressie (Niall Breslin) cut the ribbon at the opening. A Scot, Rich Niven, a Clerys customer for 30 years, was the first person through the doors.

A memorial wall in the shop documents the damage caused to the building in July.

Not since the 1916 Rising had the building required such extensive repairs.

The newly refurbished retailer is now keen to broaden its appeal. Managing director Dominic Prendergast wants Clerys to be a shopping destination for all the family.
