A play about Native American people and nature attracts a young audience to Belfast.

Children from across Northern Ireland have been coming to the Grand Opera House in Belfast for a National Theatre production of 'Hiawatha' as part of the Belfast Arts Festival.

Peter Dineen who plays the storyteller Nawadaha believes the play offers children, a sense of wild freedom. Children understand the message that the American Indians were able to live in harmony with nature.

The Indians never disturbed nature. They had too much respect for it.

The white man came into this culture and within a few years had destroyed everything that the American Indians stood for.
