Acclaimed indie singer-songwriter Sorcha Richardson makes her National Concert Hall headline debut this November.

Since the release of her Choice-nominated debut album First Prize Bravery, Sorcha's star has been firmly in the ascent. Following much-lauded second long-player Smiling Like an Idiot. she has packed out venues in the US and Europe, and supported such high-profile artists as Mitski, James Vincent McMorrow and Villagers.

Sorcha’s music has been also included in films such as Emma Roberts’ In a Relationship and Josh Hutcherson’s Tragedy Girls. She made the news earlier this year when global pop-star Ellie Goulding covered 'Shark Eyes’ from Smiling Like an Idiot and tweeted effusive praise for the track.

FILM

The last film I saw was Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse which I adored. I would watch the whole thing again tomorrow.

MUSIC

Sufjan Stevens’ new album Javelin is one we’ve been listening to in the van on tour. It’s so beautiful and heartbreaking and delicate and resilient at the same time. A perfect album to wash over you on these long drives through the US mid-west

BOOK

I’m currently reading Aoife Moore’s The Long Game: Inside Sinn Féin and getting a very important history lesson.

THEATRE

I’m ashamed to say I haven’t seen a single play this year and I blame the fact that I’ve spent most of the year living out of a suitcase between tours. If anyone has some recommendations for me, that would great.

TV

I’m a Virgo by filmmaker Boots Riley is one of the most creative and imaginative things on TV I’ve seen in ages, from the acting, to the set design, to the music supervision. A very funny and moving critical commentary on the current state of America.

GIG

I have a weekend off in the middle of my Irish tour which conveniently falls the same weekend as Other Voices in Dingle so that’s where I’ll be and I can’t wait.

ART

I was in New York in April and saw the Georgia O’Keeffe To See Takes Time exhibition at MOMA. It was probably one of my favourite exhibitions I’ve seen. I have a postcard of her piece Evening Star No.III as a little souvenir.

TECH

I honestly have barely any apps on my phone. The one that’s most useful to me is the good old voice recorder on an iPhone and that’s where most of my early demos were first captured. There are some samples we used on Smiling Like an Idiot that I took on my iPhone’s voice recorder.

THE NEXT BIG THING...

Rachael Lavelle, and her debut album Big Dreams.

Sorcha Richardson plays the National Concert Hall, Dublin on Wednesday 29 November - find out more here.
