The Ford Fiesta may be consigned to the past but there are still plenty of superminis around, among them the revised Opel Corsa. It may be a mid-life refresh but the Corsa gets several elements of Opel's current design approach.

These include the black gloss front panel that houses the headlights.

The base SC model has a 1.2 litre 75hp petrol engine and starts from €23,995, plus delivery. Standard equipment will include rear parking sensors, active lane assist, cruise control with speed limiter, forward collision alert, enhanced traffic sign recognition, driver attention alert, tyre deflation detection, hill start assist, manual air conditioning, DAB radio, 12V power outlet, electric front and rear windows, and rain-sensing windscreen wipers as standard. The base infotainment screen is a modest 7".

It looks like you’ll have to move up to the Elegance trim version to benefit from Apple Car Play and Android Auto.

The Elegance version starts at €25,295, plus delivery. It has a 10" colour touchscreen with HD graphics, Apple Car Play and Android Auto, 7" driver information cluster, front console USB connection, front and rear parking distance sensors with panoramic rearview camera, side blind spot alert with side distance alert, 16" alloy wheels, and power-folding mirrors, as standard.

The GS version has the same 1.2 75 HP engine and comes with either a manual or automatic gearbox. It starts at €26,595 and gets extras such as 17" alloy wheels, heated front seats and a black roof.

An electric version of the Cross will be available from next Spring. It has a 115 kW capacity and Opel is claiming a range of 405 kilometres in ideal conditions, but do carefully note the ideal conditions claims used by all manufacturers.

The latest version of the Superb

Skoda’s new Superb has also benefitted from the design approach currently being taken by the company with SUV’s like the Enyaq, for example. It’s due to be formally unveiled this week but, in the meantime, we have sketches.

The Superb's interior

There will be a choice of six engines, understood to be a choice of petrol and diesel and there will also be plug-in and mild hybrid versions. An estate version will also be offered.
