Rock artifacts from the career of ZZ Top founding member Dusty Hill are hitting the auction block.

"It's a fun, whimsical auction, incredible items because that's what Dusty Hill and ZZ Top represented. They changed the way we listen to music, they made it so colorful, so entertaining. And that's what we're celebrating with this auction, said Martin Nolan, founder and executive director of Julien's Auctions.

The famed guitar player died in 2021 at the age of 72 and helped form the group in the late 1060s.

The items come directly from Hill’s family and are expected to generate $1.2-2 million (€1.1-€1.8million) with part of the proceeds going to MusicCares.

Nolan explained that Dusty's widow, Charleen "realized just how Dusty was loved all over the world. His fan base is far and wide - so, she's just letting go. Very few of the items have any reserve. She's happy to get whatever she gets because she knows these items will go to fans, collectors, museums worldwide where it will continue to be enjoyed and treasured."

The famed fur guitar from the Legs video

A fur-lined Dean guitar is the top lot.

"The sheepskin came from Scotland. It was their idea to create this guitar. Of course, it was used in the Legs video in 1984. It had - they wore a gadget around their waist with the guitar would spin. So, people would look at that video to see the spin. So that's really cool - that's $80,000 to $120,000 (€73,000-€110,000) for that guitar."

Also included in the 1,000 lot sale are stage-worn jackets, boots, and awards.

The auction will be held December 7-9 in Dallas, Texas where Hill was born.
