Kellie Harrington and Michael Walsh made history in Dublin on Saturday night as they both clinched a record number of Irish titles at the IABA National Elite Boxing Championships.

Olympic gold medallist Harrington saw off Tramore's Zara Breslin 5-0 in 60kg decider at the National Stadium to win her 11th Irish title, breaking the previous record of 10.

Just hours later, Walsh joined Harrington on 11, as the Belfast native won a unanimous decision against Kellie McLoughlin of Dublin.

Both Harrington and Walsh had been tied with Kenneth Egan and Jim O'Sullivan, who had won 10 national titles each during their careers.

The tournament has been brought forward to allow for Olympic qualifiers in early 2023, as Ireland look to add to their team of five who have already stamped their tickets to France.

Harrington and Walsh have already qualified for the games, as have Jack Marley, Aoife O'Rourke and Sean McDermott.
