The final season of Derry Girls has won the International Emmy for Best Comedy Programme alongside the Netflix special Vir Das: Landing.
Derry Girls, which follows a group of teenagers growing up in Northern Ireland in the 90s before the Good Friday Agreement, picked up the award at the 51st International Emmy Awards ceremony in New York on Monday.
The hit comedy show was written and created by Lisa McGee and starred Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Nicola Coughlan, Jamie-Lee O'Donnell, Louisa Harland and Dylan Llewellyn.
It was awarded the top honour alongside Vir Das' fourth stand-up special for Netflix, Vir Das: Landing.
Martin Freeman won Best Performance by an Actor for the BBC series The Responder. The Liverpool-set thriller follows Freeman's character Chris across six night shifts as an urgent response police officer.
Karla Souza picked up the Best Performance by an Actress for La Caída (Dive). La Caída follows the story of a young Mexican girl, Mariel, who starts diving when she is eight years old. Mariel becomes a renowned Olympic diver, but eventually must choose between continued success or healing her painful past.
Other honourees included The Smeds And The Smoos, which won the award for Best Animation for Children. Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s story, which first aired on the BBC last December, shows two young protagonists, Janet and Bill, who fall in love and run away together, forcing their red and blue families to put aside their differences to search for them.
The International Emmy for Best Documentary went to the BBC film Mariupol: The People’s Story about the war-torn Ukrainian city.
